Ghost Hunters Continues Winning Ratings Streak

New York, NY – April 23, 2009 – A special crossover episode of SCI FI’s Ghost Hunters featuring an investigation by the team from Ghost Hunters International was a hit last night, haunting the competition and adding to the series’ winning ratings this season. Airing Wednesday from 9-10pm, the episode delivered a 2.0 Household rating, 3.0 million total viewers (season high), 1.7 million Adults 18-49 and 1.8 million Adults 25-54 (season high).

It was the #1 cable entertainment program for the day in both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, beating a new episode of South Park on Comedy Central in both key demos. In addition:

SCI FI was the #1 cable network airing entertainment programming in primetime for both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.

Ghost Hunters was the #1 cable program on Wednesday for Adults 25-54 viewers for the 6th time in 7 weeks since it returned with new episodes on March 11th.

Last night’s episode was the #2-highest Adults 25-54 delivery in Ghost Hunters history for this demographic, trailing only the series high set in October 2008.

Last night’s 10pm repeat telecast of the series delivered 1.2 million Adults 18-49 and 1.2 million Adults 25-54, out-delivering new episodes of most cable series that aired in primetime that same evening, including Mythbusters and Pitchmen on Discovery, Dog the Bounty Hunter (Adults 25-54 only) and The Exterminators on A&E, and Monsterquest and UFO Hunters on History

In the end, it was too good to be true. A judge wouldn’t let ousted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich participate in NBC’s impending “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.”

But he’ll have something to do with the show, so he apparently was part of a press conference announcing the final roster on Friday in Pasadena.

The particpants list included Stephen Baldwin, a veteran of shows like “The Mole,” as well as noncelebrity Tori Wilson, an apparent wrestler; former NBA star John Salley.

The other names, leaked previously, are still pretty good: Sanjaya Malakar, Tori Wilson, Stephen Baldwin, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Missing from previous lists are Geraldo Rivera and Dog the Bounty Hunter.

The four episode series starts June 1, NBC announced at a press event in Pasadena that had nothing to do wih the TV Critics Association press tours (and probably purposely so). The series will also run on MTV, in an unusual partnership, starting June

COLORADO SPRINGS – An arrest affidavit and police scanner traffic are giving more details into what happened the night Dog the Bounty Hunter and his team moved in on Hoang Nguyen.

“It’s Dog the Bounty Hunter and his crew and Bobby Brown,” said an emergency dispatcher of the call that came in April 21, “now the [reporting party] is saying it’s pepper spray, not a machine gun.”

The crew was waiting for Nguyen, who missed his February court date for a domestic violence charge and skipped out on $12,000 bond. “The bounty hunters have made entry into apartment number 32,” said the responder.

Police say Nguyen was trying to get away on a motorcycle when one of the bounty hunters spotted him. The bounty hunter told police Nguyen fired a shot and sped off. “Sometimes those things can go awry,” says Lt. David Whitlock with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The bounty hunter described the gun as a silver revolver. Police say they didn’t find any bullet holes in buildings or cars and no one was hit. “The incident the other night with the shooting, that is so, so rare,” says Bobby Brown, a bail bondsman who works with Dog the Bounty Hunter and his team.

Nguyen is facing several charges including attempted second-degree murder. Police say there are some concerns about the way bounty hunters work. The bounty hunters say they’ve got time and resources police don’t to stake out and capture criminals.

But they’re not trained law enforcement officers. Some law officers question the armed ambushes and other tactics used by bounty hunters. “That alarms the community and I don’t know how that serves the common good,” says Whitlock of how many bounty hunters work.

Police officers’ duty is to protect and serve, but bounty hunters have a different mission. “If they don’t go to court, we are on them and they are apprehended,” Brown says. Brown says they never carry deadly weapons when executing search warrants.

“We are not going to kill somebody over a down bond,” says Brown, “we don’t break the law to enforce the law.” Police say they are glad to get criminals behind bars, but they can’t always vouch for a bounty hunter’s level of experience.

“There’s testing, there’s training,” Whitlock says of police officers, “they’re officers that are highly trained professionals and I don’t know if I can say that for every group that goes out and does bounty hunting.” But Brown says that all bounty hunters have to be licensed. “It’s an extreme school that they go through,” says Brown, “it’s a very extreme background check.”

“They’re certainly welcome to call us to assist in capturing any of these individuals they’re looking for,” Whitlock says of the bounty hunters, “but that doesn’t happen very often.” While police say they rarely work with bounty hunters, Brown says his crew always alerts area law enforcement wherever they’re working

“As a pastor and a former Miss California, I am often asked to interpret what the Word of God has to say on a particular subject. I am quite confident that God prefers that we human beings stick to speaking for ourselves. And yet there are occasions when God’s Word is used as a weapon, and I feel compelled to speak.

In the past few days, much has been made of the words of Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean. She stated that marriage is between a man and a woman. I write not in response to her opinion, but rather about her comments that followed: that the Bible condones her words. She said, ‘It’s not about being politically correct, it’s about being biblically correct.’ While this sentiment is shared by many who seek to condemn gay people and gay marriage, citing pieces of the Bible to further one’s own prejudice fails to meet the Bible on its own terms.

Most people seeking to condemn gay people point to the Book of Leviticus, where we read that men lying with men is an abomination. However, we rarely hear of other verses found in the book of Leviticus that are equally challenging. For example, Leviticus also tells us that eating shrimp and lobster is an abomination. And that a person should not wear material woven of two kinds of material—an impossible mandate for a pageant contestant!

In Paul’s letter to the community in Corinth we read, ‘For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church….’ And yet these words have not prevented Christian denominations from ordaining women, such as myself. Sadly, the Bible has been used to further prejudice throughout history. We have used it to permit ourselves to enslave people; to conquer and kill; and to denigrate the earth.

The truth is that it is difficult to know for sure the intentions of the biblical authors, but we do know something about God. Those of us who know God through Jesus of Nazareth know that he went to great lengths to express God’s love to people who were labeled as outcasts. He spent time with children, prostitutes, and lepers, all of whom were labeled as outside of the grasp of the Holy. As we continue to seek God’s vision for us as a nation grounded in a love for justice, I pray that we might move closer to the cause of grace.”

CNN Says Police Find No Evidence Of Shooting

(CNN) — A fugitive fired a shot at bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman when he tried to apprehend him Tuesday night, the reality TV star told police.

Investigators in Colorado Springs, Colorado, have found no gun, shell casings or bullet holes at the scene, but the man sought by Chapman was later arrested, according to Lt. David Whitlock, a spokesman for the city’s police department.

Whitlock identified him as Hoang Nguyen, whose bail on an attempted murder charge had been revoked.

Chapman, who is based in Hawaii, told police that he and a local bondsman were trying to take Nguyen into custody at a Colorado Springs apartment complex when he fired one shot from a handgun at him, Whitlock said.

No one was wounded, the spokesman said.

Nguyen was jailed on the earlier attempted murder charge, but no charge related to Chapman’s complaint has been filed so far, Whitlock said.

A statement posted Wednesday on Chapman’s Web site said Nguyen escaped on a motorcycle after he “allegedly fired at least one shot at the Chapmans.”

It said Chapman and his team were armed only with “pepper ball guns.”

” ‘Dog’ does not carry lethal weapons,” the Web site said.

Chapman’s spokeswoman, Mona Wood, told CNN that “Dog the Bounty Hunter” was taping at the time, but that tape of the incident would not be released until the show airs.

The show, which chronicles the life of Chapman and his bounty-hunting family, has aired on the A&E Television Network since 2004.

Dog Captures Alleged Shooter

In the early morning hours, Duane “Dog” Chapman was victorious in capturing the fugitive who shot at him and his bounty hunter family yesterday in Colorado Springs. 35-year-old Hoang Nguyen was out on a $25,000 bond for domestic violence and gun charges. Nguyen allegedly fired at least one shot at the Chapmans, then escaped, but was captured a few hours later by Chapman and his family.

“It was a matter of public safety,” said Chapman, from Colorado. “This guy had a gun and was going to use it to stay out of jail. We had to catch him before anyone else got hurt. We were not going to give up until we found him.”

Earlier news reports mentioned that Nguyen was captured “without incident.” However, Chapman stated that Nguyen tried to flee a second time and had to be subdued.

Chapman added, “I was overwhelmed with the response we received almost immediately, and want to say ‘mahalo’ for everyone’s prayers and kind comments. We are all fine, and humbled by everyone’s sincere concern.”

A&E crews were filming for “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” and the exciting, heart-stopping events will be aired in a future episode. However, local station KKTV 11 did air some footage from the incident in Colorado Springs.

Dog Gets Shot At

Earlier today, Duane “Dog” Chapman and his family were shot at by fugitive Hoang Nguyen in Colorado Springs, as they approached him. No one was injured.

Contrary to previous media reports, 35-year-old Nguyen has a $25,000 bond (previous reports stated $1,000), and did not have his bond revoked for domestic violence and gun charges. Nguyen allegedly fired at least one shot at the Chapmans, and escaped on a red motorcycle. He is still on the loose, and now also wanted for attempted homicide because of today’s incident.

Veteran Colorado Springs bail bondsman Bobby Brown, often seen on “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” and “Dog” Chapman were working together to apprehend Nguyen at an apartment complex in Colorado Springs.

Chapman and his team were armed only with pepper ball guns, as “Dog” does not carry lethal weapons.
